With so many working from home these days, you may be thinking "It's time to rethink my home office interior design". We don't blame you! You spend so much time in your office, and it should be a space that is not only functional, but beautiful. Today, we are sharing some of our top tips for making your home office feel like an inspiring workspace. From color palette to finishes, every detail matters. Take a look!
Warm Color Schemes
A typical home office interior design usually gravitates towards white and stale colors, but why not make your space warm and inviting? For our client's Central Park West home office, she wanted a space that was warm and bright, and we delivered. The red grasscloth wallpaper is warm without being overstimulating, and the rich wood furniture makes the space feel more welcoming and cozy. To balance out all the warmth, we added in bright blue accents to give contrast. Most importantly, we positioned the desk right by the window for lots of natural light and beautiful views of the park.
Luxe Finishes
Our clients' Tribeca apartment was full of rich color and luxurious finishes. It was only natural to continue this palette into the home office! We believe that your workspace affects your headspace, so we brought in beautiful brass and gold accents to promote prosperity and mindfulness. The cabinet doors have a luxurious rich blue overlay, which is carried out through the furnishings and into the rug. Finally, we added executive inspired millwork and trim to create a richly layered space that doesn't need a virtual background on Zoom.
Graphic Wallpaper
Wallpaper is one of our favorite ways to liven up a space, so why not bring it into your home office? For our clients' Upper West Side Pied a Terre, they wanted a small designated space to do work that was functional, yet beautiful. They had a deep appreciation for Asian culture, so a chinoiserie inspired wallpaper was the perfect fit. It was calming with a light blue background, yet luxurious and interesting enough to keep the mind active while getting work done. We find mixing cool and warm tones makes for the perfect balance in any room.
Contemporary Shapes
Another trend we see in home office interior designs is very linear and square shapes. While the clean lines can be beautiful too, we encourage you to incorporate some contemporary shapes into your design. In our clients' West Village townhouse, we brought in this beautiful seating area, perfect for midday breaks or client meetings. To break up the harsh lines in the architecture, we brought in more relaxed chairs and a round cocktail table. The sphere shaped lantern above the seating area adds visual interest that compliments the rest of the abstract detail.
Add an Element of Fun
Last but certainly not least, we believe that office spaces should be fun and functional! For our clients in Boston, we created this whimsical office space to work from home. This vibrant elephant wallpaper was such a fun choice for this very colorful home. We wanted to make work from home feel less mundane, and what better way than climbing elephants and bold color? We tied the look together with a mid century modern inspired desk and some funky lighting for late night deadlines.
