New York City interior designer Kati Curtis has launched her signature furniture collection for The New Traditionalists. The collaborative program dubbed "The Syndicate" expands TNT's custom program beyond just one-of-a-kind pieces, showcasing designs that complement the standard TNT aesthetic. Kati brought her signature global style to the collection siting influences from India, Indonesia and China. Take a look below! The collection is now on view at the New York Design Center in The New Traditionalists showroom on the 7th floor. The pieces feature the high quality craftsmanship synonymous with TNT along with hardwood construction, valued old world manufacturing techniques, and innovative, hand applied artisan finishes. This collection was so special to create, and it's so surreal to finally see it in person. We hope you will join us in celebrating fine craftsmanship and beautiful design. Along with many of the Top Manhattan Interior Designers, Kati Curtis is featured in Best and Company's video series, "In Good Company". In this episode, we talked about my formula for success in all of my client's designs, my 22 year background in design, and how my father's contractor background was a driving force for my career. For my clients' projects, I always like to include an element of craft- using high quality craftsman to create custom pieces. I include an element of culture with global influence. Lastly, I include a collected feel with items collected from around the world over a period of time- whether from my own personal collection or from my clients' travels. This formula makes our designs inherently unique and personal to each client, and really differentiates us from other design firms. We hope you enjoy this episode of "In Good Company" as much as I did creating it. Thank you so much to Best and Company for including me in your lineup of top Manhattan interior designers. Kati Curtis and 7 other top interior designers spot trends at High Point Market. As a style spotter, I was chosen along with several other top designers from around the country to scout out the top trends at this year's High Point Market. At Terracea, I quickly picked up on the global influence of their pieces that featured a twist on traditional marketplace patterns. I chose this stunning console that takes a typical marketry pattern and puts it on a relief on the front of the doors. The pattern was carved out and had an amazing textural quality that I loved. The mix of traditional and contemporary is something I find to be really exciting. Next, I stopped at Cisco Home. I was really excited to see some more Southwestern, Americana qualities that I noticed throughout High Point Market. The John Derian collection for Cisco really stood out to me as a really sophisticated, New York quality with that southwest flare. I chose this stunning John Derian couch from this line as my piece of choice. It has a very upscale, New York silhouette and feel to it, but they found these vintage Moroccan rugs and upholstered them with it. This really changed the whole feel of the piece and made it a show stopper! If you've been thinking about bringing us on to design your dream home- now is the time! The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has featured our own NYC Interior Designer Kati in their Alumni Video Series this year. An honor - "Accepted with much gratitude for the top notch education I received. " she gushes. In this video, I discussed how my family's careers in general contracting and construction led me to interior design. I even used to draw floor plans as a little girl! After SCAD, my career took me in all kinds of different directions and to different experiences. From designing commercial hospitals to working in big architecture firms, I was learning so much- but I felt like something was lacking. I wasn't able to really impact the human experience in the way I wanted. This led me into residential work, which is what I do today. My education at SCAD really has been such a great foundation for my career. All of the principles of form, shape, and proportion that I studied are things I use every day. I spoke a bit about how my LEED accreditation and style have been so important in how I approach my clients' projects- and the education from SCAD really has been the greatest gift. It's a designer's dream to be able to do anything we want...Often we're constrained by our clients' tastes and preferences, but sometimes... we have a chance to throw caution to the wind and make a grand personal statement! This is exactly what happened when I was chosen to design a table for the New York Design Center's Dining By Design exhibit March 20th - 24th in NYC.  Since I basically live at the NYDC, I didn't have to think very hard about what I wanted to use in my design. And with an upcoming visit to London, I could scope out the Timorous Beasties showroom in person. It's a great honor to have been selected to design a table for DIFFA in conjunction with the New York Design Center.  The Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids, Dining By Design annual event is held in conjunction with the Architectural Digest Home Design Show and is a unique event that showcases design luminaries in a feast for the senses. All proceeds from this four day event, which includes a Cocktails By Design preview party on March 20th, a Gala Dinner on March 24th and public viewing from March 21st through March 23rd, benefit DIFFA and their quest to fight HIV/AIDS. Since this is such a unique event it called for finding some extremely unique finishes and pieces to include in my 'Boy|Girl' design theme. Timorous Beasties fulfilled that beyond my expectations and I'm thrilled to give you a...
Big changes here at NYC Interior Design Firm Nirmada - we have a new name and are soon to have a new address. Nirmada Interior Architectural Design is now....KATI CURTIS DESIGN. Our new branding was designed by the incredibly talented Cooper House, and it couldn't be more perfect. Personally, I am having a hard time with the name change, but everyone else seems to think it's long overdue. Of course, we have to thank Strohl and Co., our PR Firm extraordinaire for the nudge. Apparently I am the brand - so the interior design firm has to have my name... Well, I might be the brand - but I certainly couldn't do it alone and I have to give a shout out of thanks to Carolyn, Ira, Walter, Todd, and Anne for their brilliance and support. It's a team effort. Other than the name, you can still expect the same professional, high end design services we've always provided. That will NEVER change! We will also be moving to new digs in May, so update your address books accordingly. If you haven't changed over to our new email, don't worry - everything will be forwarded thanks to the super-intelligent coding done by Tim Cooper at Cooper House. We'd love to hear your thoughts about our new brand and look! xo, KC
Over the past two weeks, we've been wrapping up the NYC West Village townhouse interior design and renovation we began last November.
As a lot of you will be heading "out east" to the Hamptons for what might be a long weekend, we'll be hard at work on wrapping up a Hamptons beach house design we began last October. The Client is scheduled to move in July 15th and the Contractor is working around the clock to make it happen. The project was a complete gut renovation of a 1920's ranch style home with a 1980's addition. We have brought it into the 21st Century for a young modern family. Here are some sneak peeks of our design: We removed the existing roof adding a roof deck with views of the bay and the ocean. A skylight brings more natural light into the interior. New Open Kitchen Design: Living and Dining Area: Family Room: Home Office: Baby's Room: Girls' Room: The push is on to have things ready when they're summer rental is up on July 15th!
Small spaces in NYC take a few tricks of the interior design trade to really optimize the available extra room (if any) as well as keep stylish and uncluttered.
