With the long awaited Barbie movie blowing up the big screen, I've been asked a lot about "barbiecore" inteior design. To be honest, it does make me cringe a bit, but I can see how Barbie inspiration has infected our daily lives. interior design is no exception – the combination of pink colors and the use of luxurious materials has been labeled as "Barbiecore". When not executed correctly, Barbiecore inspired interiors can come off as tacky. If you are considering this trend for your next interior project, I've rounded up some tips to help you achieve Barbiecore interior design that is tasteful and sophisticated. Opt for a Pink Color Palette with Neutral Accents The key to achieving a Barbiecore interior design while still keeping it sophisticated is to stick to a palette of soft pinks and neutral accents. Soft pinks, mixed with blues and oranges, will bring a touch of Barbie to your space while maintaining an understated elegance. On the other hand, opting for neutral color accents, like beige, white, or gray, will make your space look luxurious and provide balance. Incorporate Sophisticated Furniture Pieces When it comes to furnishings, it is imperative that you choose luxurious and elegant pieces. In particular, I recommend furniture with soft edges and plush textures such as velvet. A great option would be tufted pink velvet sofas and chairs that offer a comfortable and stylish seating arrangement. You can also add bright pops...

This year I was asked to be a "Style Spotter" for High Point Market. A true honor of top interior designers and taste-makers around the country. 2015 Style Spotters include Michelle Jennings Wiebe, Style Spotter “Emeritus,” Studio M; Arianne Bellizaire, Inspired to Style; Kati Curtis, Kati Curtis Design; Beth Dotolo, Pulp Design Studios; Lori Gilder, Interior Makeovers Inc.; Patti Johnson, Patti Johnson Interiors; Courtney Lake, Monogram Décor; Jonathan Legate, Jonathan Legate Interior Consultation; and Leslie Hendrix Wood, Hadley Court. Such a great group, and I was truly humbled to be amongst these top talents in our industry. At Spring market, 1 top trend I identified was a resurgence of all things feminine. Trend #1 The Feminine Edge This trend, the rise of the feminine, feels like a breath of fresh air to me. And after the long, strong staying power of the contemporary look, with its hard lines and lack of detail, I’m excited to see things loosening up. The feminine edge, with its flowing lines, lovely curves and intricate details, signifies a return to the meaningful and sentimental in design. This is a trend towards a softening of the elements—and it’s showing up across all the elements: color, texture, and in mixes of materials - we’re finding them to be just…prettier. They’re more sparkly, shiny and delicate, and they give us a feeling of things being so much softer and easier—this is a trend that brings a gentle feeling,...

Big news here at Kati Curtis Design! We're thrilled to begin 2015 with a 14 page spread in Luxe Magazine Winter 2015 edition of our recently completed interior design project in Rumson, New Jersey. One of our favorite projects to date is this 6,000 square foot arts and crafts style home overlooking the Navesink river. It has 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and an adjacent boathouse that was a blast to design. Long time clients of KCD finally decided to leave the City for the burbs and called on us to re-imagine a tired, '90's style home into a bright, airy full time residence where their growing family could develop roots. We're so excited to finally get to share this stunning home with you all! More photos will be up on our site soon, but in the meantime you'll have to go out and grab a LUXE copy for yourself! xo, KC PS: If you've been thinking about bringing us on to design your dream home- now is the time! You can contact us here to schedule your consultation and we can get the process started. Thank you for following along with us, and we will see you next time! More photos of this project can be found on our portfolio pages. Related News: LUXE Magazine Gold List 2016 features Kati Curtis Design
It's a designer's dream to be able to do anything we want...Often we're constrained by our clients' tastes and preferences, but sometimes... we have a chance to throw caution to the wind and make a grand personal statement! This is exactly what happened when I was chosen to design a table for the New York Design Center's Dining By Design exhibit March 20th - 24th in NYC. Since I basically live at the NYDC, I didn't have to think very hard about what I wanted to use in my design. And with an upcoming visit to London, I could scope out the Timorous Beasties showroom in person. It's a great honor to have been selected to design a table for DIFFA in conjunction with the New York Design Center. The Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids, Dining By Design annual event is held in conjunction with the Architectural Digest Home Design Show and is a unique event that showcases design luminaries in a feast for the senses. All proceeds from this four day event, which includes a Cocktails By Design preview party on March 20th, a Gala Dinner on March 24th and public viewing from March 21st through March 23rd, benefit DIFFA and their quest to fight HIV/AIDS. Since this is such a unique event it called for finding some extremely unique finishes and pieces to include in my 'Boy|Girl' design theme. Timorous Beasties fulfilled that beyond my expectations and I'm thrilled to give you a...
For many, 2014 started with good intentions, hopes, new dreams, and aspirations. We all fall prey to making our new year resolutions of doing more exercise, adopting a healthier lifestyle, losing weight, being more punctual, getting physically fit, quitting smoking and the list goes on. But chances are that by end of January we’ll most likely be adding them to our to-do list for the next year. Why? Because it requires determination and commitment to get oneself tied up in the struggle against becoming a better person in the New Year. Thankfully, we're living in the age of technology and can beat the odds by achieving our goals by taking advantage of the thousands of apps available to us on our tech devices. Track How You Move, Eat and Sleep There is no lack of abundance of health tracking gadgets and apps, but finding the right one - the one that makes it easy to track activity AND keeps you motivated - can sometimes be like finding a needle in the haystack. Topping our list this year is Fitbit. Fitbit offers a variety of activity trackers and smart scale gadgets that you wear. The gadgets, and their free app, track your daily goals and progress over time, help in monitoring calories in and out, and much more! An added plus - Share your hard work and progress with friends and peers to create some friendly competition, which works as a...
