Fall in the City is one of my favorite seasons. With warm reds, oranges, and yellows decorating the city streets, you can't help but feel cozy and festive- even with a cold breeze. At KCD, we love to incorporate lots of color into our designs - and naturally, this time of year always brings new inspiration. Today we're sharing a few of our favorite fall-inspired interiors, and how you can get the look in your home.
Monochromatic Pattern Mixing
In this guest bedroom, we filled the space with tons of warmth in the form of monochromatic pattern mixing. We used a multitude of different warm shades to create a space that was cozy and comforting but still felt luxurious and personal. Layers of fluffy accent pillows in complementary patterns mixed with more subtle bedspreads made for a bedroom that's exquisitely crafted yet highly functional. For accessories, we kept things more simple to balance out an otherwise bold look. This traditional Indian vessel nods to the warm tones already present in the space but adds height and compliments the tall stripes on the headboard beside it. Cozy Textures and Rich Fabrics
There's truly no better way to make fall-inspired interiors than with lots of soft and cozy textiles. In this master bedroom, we were already limited with space. So we made sure to utilize all we had to create a peaceful getaway. The focal point of the room, a deep emerald velvet bed frame, instantly welcomes you to this autumn paradise. We balanced the rich color with neutral textiles in the comfiest materials we could think of. The bright wood millwork ties the whole space together by adding a much-needed layer of warmth.
Balancing Warm with Cool
In this lower Manhattan townhouse, much of the trim and moldings were original, and we wanted to honor that history. Since it brought so much warmth into this space, it was important to balance that out with rich cool tones. The smoky teal couch here really makes the space feel balanced against all the warmth coming from the walls. Bringing in jewel tones still makes the feel reminiscent of fall, without it getting too heavy on warmer shades like red or orange. On the floor, a bright blue and red rug ties it all together.
Brightening Up the Room with Natural Light
While all of the above elements (pattern mixing, luxurious textiles, and color balancing) are important when designing a fall-inspired interior, arguably the most important thing to keep in mind is light. The room above is filled with gorgeous warm colors and patterns- which could get overwhelming in a small space. Luckily, we had these gorgeous windows to let in tons of natural light to brighten up the room. When designing your fall-inspired space- make sure you can balance all of those gorgeous rich tones with light. Too much of these colors can make the space feel smaller if there's not enough light to compensate.
